Two meritorious students of St. Lawrence Composite PU College, Moodubelle felicitated by CBE

Mangalore, 02 September 2010:  On the occasion of the celebration of the Teachers’ Day by the Catholic Board of Education (CBE) on Thursday, 2nd September 2010 at 9.30 am in Shaanthi Kiran Auditorium, Bajjodi, Mangalore, two meritorious students of St. Lawrence Composite PU College, Moodubelle were felicitated. These students are:  Pradeep M. Lobo who had secured the highest marks in PUC Commerce (94.5 per cent) among all the Junior Colleges managed by the CBE.

 

Presently, Pradeep is pursuing BCom studies in St. Mary’s College, Shirva. The second student is Poorna Nayak who is one of the 11 top students in the SSLC among the students of the high schools under CBE with an overall percentage of  95.24 and scoring highest marks in the subject of Kannada (124 out 125 marks).  Poorna Nayak is presently in the First Year PUC (Science) in the same institution. Besides these two students, another student, Jovita Shiny D’Souza who is a parishioner of Moodubelle,  but was a student of St. Mary’s High School, Shirva was also felicitated being one of the 11 top students in the SSLC examination. She is continuing her education in St. Mary’s Junior College, Shirva.

The CBE had organised the function not only to felicitate the meritorious students, but also to felicitate the institutions for securing highest results and also to honour those teachers and non-teaching staff members who have retired last year or will be retiring during this academic year.

 

The function was presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore, who is also the President of the CBE. Mr. Felix Lobo, Managing Director of Qatar Meta Coats and his wife, Mrs. Stefania Lobo were the chief guests.

 

The programme began with the prayer song presented by the students of Rosario College, Mangalore, followed by a beautiful welcome dance by the students of St. Aloysius English Medium School, Urwa, Mangalore. Fr. Wilson V. D’Souza, the Secretary of the CBE welcomed the guests. Fr. Paul Sequeira, Principal of St. Lawrence Composite PU College, Moodubelle offered the bouquet of flowers to the chief guest-Mr. Felix Lobo.

 

 

As a mark of respect to the deceased teachers and students one minute silence was observed. Sr. Stella Paes, Headmistress of Holy Angels Higher Primary School, Permannur read out the names of those who have left for heavenly abode. The list included late Fr. Cyril D’Souza, former Secretary of CBE who had passed away on 24th March 2010. One of the students of St. Lawrence Composite College, Moodubelle- Prachetan who had passed away on 17th November 2009 was also remembered on this occasion.

 

The chief guest, Mr. Felix Lobo felicitated the meritorious students right from SSLC to the graduation level. Pradeep M. Lobo received the honour in person, where as Fr. Paul Sequeira received the honour on behalf of Poorna Nayak who could not attend the function. Similarly, Mr. Felix Lobo honoured those educational institutions for securing highest results among which there were 12 high schools which had secured cent per cent results. In PUC, Lourdes central School (PU) Bejai, Mangalore was the only Junior College that has secured cent per cent results, that too with the first batch.

 

 

In his address, Mr. Felix Lobo appreciated the role of his teachers in inculcating good values and gave credit to his teachers, after his parents, for his achievements in life, profession and business.

 

Two teachers who have been awarded the Zilla Prashasthi as Best Teachers were honoured at this occasion by Rt. Rev. Dr. Aloysius D’Souza. These teachers are:  Mr. Denis Neri D’Souza, Headmaster of St. Lawrence Higher Primary School, Bondel and  Mr. Alphonse D’Costa, Headmaster of St. Mary’s High School, Udupi. The Bishop also felicitated those teachers who have already retired and those who will be retiring during this academic year. The list included-45 teachers from higher primary schools, 10 teachers from high schools, 3 teachers from  Junior Colleges, 3 from degree colleges and 12 members of the non-teaching staff from different sections and institutions.

 

 

On behalf of the teachers who were felicitated, Mr. Denis Neri D’Souza expressed gratitude to the CBE on behalf of the retired teachers. Similarly, Mr. J.M. Hegde, Librarian from Milagres College, Kallianpur spoke on behalf of the members of the non-teaching staff.

 

 

In his Presidential message on the occasion of the Teachers’ Day, Rt. Rev. Dr. Aloysius D’Souza complimented the meritorious students and the Correspondents and heads of the institutions securing highest results. Addressing the retired and retiring teachers, he said that this is the occasion to honour, thank and pray for all of them. He appreciated the dedicated and sincere service that they had rendered to the educational institutions under the management of the CBE and wished them good health and happiness in their retired life.

 

Rev. Fr. Wilson V. D’Souza presented mementos to the guests following which Mr. Alphonse D’Costa proposed the vote of thanks. The entire programme was very well compeered by Mrs. Irene D’Souza. The function concluded with the National Anthem.
