Fr Denis Castelino

Amidst his pastoral work, though his creative writing slowed down, he continued writing after his retirement. His essay “My father Raymond Castelino” won the Kittall Best Essay Award for the year 2012.

After serving as  Asst and Parish Priest at Cathedral, Bantwal, Attur, Alangar, Kalmady and other places, Fr Denis now resides at Vianney Home, senior priests home at Fr Muller Hospital, Mangalore. He was instrumental in starting Kalmady pilgrimage centre.

“Fr Denis Castelino is known for writing in simple language and intensity of expressions. Though he writes about his father, mother or brother the essay effectively brings out society, tradition, culture, relationships, family values and many more things of the time. His writings sensitively bring out-social inequality, effects of land reforms on society and many other issues of those times.” opines Critic and Editor of Konkani Literary Website, Kittall.com

Fr Francis Rodrigues, Editor of Raknno weekly, celebrating 75 years of its publication says “Fr Denis Castelino has a deep humanistic and communitarian philosophy of life within his heart and mind. It looks at the human existence with holistic approach. The philosophy has been supported and complimented by his rich life experiences especially in a rural background. An analytical mixture of his philosophy and experience make the writings of Fr Denis unique and exclusive producing a special literary aroma in the reader.”
