Catholic Sabha Moodublle to celebrate Silver Jubilee by presenting Konkani Play “Jivithachi Saanz

Udupi/M’belle, 14 Oct 2013:The Moodubelle Unit of the Catholic Sabha will celebrate its Silver Jubilee in the month of January, 2014 by presenting Dr. Eugene D’Souza’s Konkani Play “Jivithachi Saanz…” (Evening of Life…), the story of the family of a retired person and his neighbourhood.

 

The play was formally inaugurated  in the Parish Hall in a brief function on Monday, 14 October 2013 at 10 am on the auspicious Dassehra Day by Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Parish Priest of  Moodubelle in the presence of Fr. Paul Sequeira, Alphonse K. Alva, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council, Mrs. Jacinta D’Souza, Secretary, Mrs. Helen D’Souza, President of  the Moodubelle Unit of the Catholic Sabha, Mrs.Emilia Noronha  and Dr. Eugene D’Souza  as well as the past and present office bearers  and members of the Catholic Sabha, invitees including Ronald Saby, representative of Bellevision (UAE) and  the team of actors.

 

Following the prayer and Gospel Reading, Mrs. Helen D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Charles Quadros in his introductory remarks narrated the need to organize the parishioners, especially the children and bring out the talents that they possess. He complimented Dr. Eugene D’Souza for bringing out the play and recalled from memory that 40 years ago he had an opportunity as a young boy to act in one of Dr. Eugene D’Souza’s plays which he had presented earlier in Mumbai.

 

 

Fr. Paul Sequeira in his message said that he had attended the reading session of the play some days ago and appreciated the efforts of Dr. Eugene D’Souza in writing the play and bringing out the positive aspects in each of the characters of the play. He wished well for the Catholic Sabha on the occasion of the celebration of its Silver Jubilee and presentation of the play.

 

Narrating the background of the play, Dr. Eugene D’Souza said that he had written the play nearly seven years ago and was waiting for an opportunity to present it with the help of local talented actors. He said that while observing the talents day presentation by the ICYM year after year and the overwhelming participation of children, youth and adults, he felt that there is ample talent in the parish. He approached Fr. Joswey Fernandes  and  mentioned about the play. Fr. Joswey supported the idea  and  suggested that on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee of the Moodubelle Unit of the Catholic Sabha the play could be presented.  Dr. Eugene D’Souza briefly narrated the theme of the play and its format and thanked Catholic Sabha, especially Mrs. Helen D’Souza for organizing the inauguration (Muhoorat) function and Mrs. Meera Lobo in helping him in transcripting the play.

 

Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes inaugurated the play by unwrapping the booklet of the play. In his presidential address, Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes highlighted the need of building up families and imbibing good values among the children  so that they may grow up as responsible members of the family and take care of themselves, their families and their portents.  He pointed out that the lessons that are included in the play are worth taking note of.  He said that Catholic Sabha has taken the bold step of presenting the play on the occasion of its Silver Jubilee in the month of January 2014. He wished well for both the Catholic Sabha and the play.

 

Ignatius Monis compeered the programme and  vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. Emilia Noronha, Secretary of the Catholic Sabha.
