Bantwal: Miscreants vandalize grotto of Mother Mary at Loretto Parish

Bantwal, 13 Oct 2013: The grotto of Mother Mary at Loretto parish, near here was damaged by miscreants on Saturday October 12 night.

The incident came to light on Sunday October 13 early morning, when a youth noticed the damaged glass of the grotto.Sources said that since 2 soda bottles were found on the spot, it was believed that the miscreants threw them on the glass shield of Mother Mary’s grotto.

 
It damaged the glass shield and also a part of the statue. Loretto parish priest Fr Oswald Monteiro said that he reported the incident that took place overnight to city police as soon as the incident came to light, said Fr Monteiro.Town sub-inspector Venkataramana, Puttur DySP H D Mendonca and circle inspector visited the spot.As soon as the news spread, faithful from neighboring parishes Agrar, Modankap, Bambil and others visited the church and recited rosary in front of the grotto.

 

 

 

Since 12:30 pm, hundreds of parishioners have been protesting in the church premises. The protestors are waiting for minister Ramanath Rai’s visit.Bantwal town police registered a case in this regard and investigations are under way.
