Mangalore, 22 Aug, 2013 : ‘The rush for breaking news in print and electronic media might end up breaking people and institutions. False and incomplete news targeting individuals or incidents can destroy life or society,’ said Bishop Dr Henry D’Souza of Bellary diocese.

Bishop Dr Henry was addressing the valedictory of Journalism Course - 2013 organized jointly by Sandesha Foundation for Culture and Education and Canara Communication Centre at Sandesha premises here on Thursday August 22.  It was inaugurated by Bishop Dr Aloysius P D’Souza, here on August 5.

‘Journalists should support the process of building harmony in society and among communities. In addition, the media should contribute to societal change and transformation. These are its primary responsibilities,’ emphasized Bishop Dr Henry.

‘The journalist must have an inner urge to make a positive difference. She/he must be sensitive towards any incident of conflict, violence and so on. Only these qualities help to communicate and write,’ said Bishop Dr Henry.

MLA J R Lobo in his chief guest’s address emphasized on following ethics while carrying out journalistic duties. ‘If a good journalist can build society, a bad journalist can equally break it. Besides, the reports in publications are recorded and documented to discuss in the Assembly,’ said MLA Lobo.
