Udupi: A candidate loses in revenge, another wins with grit

Udupi,10 May 2013: Congress veteran rebellion and JDS candidate Vasant Salian lost his earnest deposit in the assembly elections held in Kaup legislative constituency.


Vasant Salian contested the assembly elections in his home constituency of Kaup for 7 times, and was elected as MLA for 5 times and also became state minister twice.  When Salian was denied party ticket by the Congress, he deserted his loyal party and contested as JDS candidate, also lost the elections.

 


While submitting his nomination papers, Vasant announced that Congress candidate Vinay Kumar Sorake who was responsible for the conspiracy and the former is contesting the elections to defeat the latter.


Vasant Salian was believed to defeat Congress to such an extent of 10,000 votes of majority of voters from Billava community that he belongs.  Despite, Vasant’s ambitions, he could not defeat Congress candidate Vinay Kumar Sorake who won.


Vasant had bagged 45,055 votes by contesting as Congress candidate in the assembly elections held during 20008.  Meanwhile, this time, Vasant bagged just 4,327 votes contesting as JDS candidate and also lost his earnest money.


On the other hand, Halady Srinivas Shetty, who was a longtime BJP MLA who contested as independent candidate in his home constituency of Kundapur and won?

 


Srinivas deserted BJP and also resigned to the post of MLA, when he was denied ministerial berth by CM Jagdish Shettar.  Srinivas had been 3 times MLA and again won on his charisma as independent candidate. 


Udupi – Chikmagalur Congress MP Jayaprakash Hegde who contested during assembly elections in 2008 was defeated by BJP’s Srinivas with a margin of 25,276 votes.  The political analysts forecasted that Srinivas would get 10 to 12,000 votes but that has proved wrong. 

 
In fact, when the assembly elections were announced on Wednesday May 8, Srinivas has defeated Congress candidate Shivaram Shetty with a margin of 40,161 votes!  BJP candidate Kishore Kumar secured 14,524 votes and lost his earnest money.

Vasantha learned his personal worth hard way and very humiliating way! Congress is better off without a person greedy for power! Salian would hve lost if Congress had fielded him!
