Kaup: Vasant V Salian to contest from JD(S)

Kaup, 18 Apr 2013: After Denial of Congress party ticket, disgruntled former State Minister Vasant V Salian had decided to file his nomination has independent Candidate for the May 5 Assembly polls. But Soon the decision was changed after he was approached by JD(S) District Chief Deviprasad Shetty who offered him JD(S) ticket for Kaup.

Rebel Congress candidate and official candidate of JD(S), former minister Vasant V Salian filed his nominations with the Election officer of Kaup Constituency, Arun Kumar Sangavi at Taluk Office, Bannanje  .

JD(S) Candidate Vasanth V Salian was accompanied by his wife Geetha V Salian, JD(S) Udupi District Chief Deviprasad Shetty, JD(S) Youth Wing President Vasudeva Rao and others.

 

He was one of the strong contenders to bag the ticket for the prestigious Kaup Constituency along with Businessmen Gurme Suresh Shetty and MA Gafoor.

Vasant V Salian has previously served as State Fisheries Minister and Udupi District Minister under SM Krishna led Congress Govt. He also is a 5 time MLA from Congress Party. In the last two elections held in 2004 and 2008, he had lost to the sitting MLA Lalaji R Mendon with thin margin.

ts also Important to see the proceedings with Caste Angle as both Salian and Congress Candidate Vinay Kumar Sorake belongs to the Billava community which has majority population from the region.

It seems like all the in fighting and dispute has made life much easier for Two time BJP MLA Lalaji R Mendon who is seeking people’s mandate from Kaup for the third time as congress vote base and Billava caste votes are bound to get divided.
