Udupi: Bajrang Dal Activists attack Prayer House in Moodubelle over Alleged Conversions

Udupi, 09 Mar 2013: Six persons were injured in an alleged attack by Bajrang Dal activists on a prayer house at Moodubelle near here on Friday March 8 night.  The injured were admitted to district Government Hospital here.


 
Thirty-eight-year-old Surya from Karkal, sixteen-year-old Prem Mendonca, Shantaram, II year engineering student Savio Johnson, Emilia Lobo – mother of Bible Society member Roshan were wounded and admitted at district Government Hospital here.  The critically wounded Ramesh has been admitted to KMC Hospital, Manipal here.

 

 


 
The police arrested Bajrang Dal activists – Sanjeev Poojary, Ranjit Poojary, Sukesh, Dileep, Jayaprakash, Prakash, Raghavendra Acharya, Ramesh Shetty, Satish, Vishwanat Acharya and Suresh.


 
Speaking to media persons, Western Range IGP Pratap Reddy said that swift action will be taken in the matter. ‘We are taking this incident seriously. Already around 10 persons have been arrested and the rest will be caught soon. Such kinds of incidents will not be tolerated,’ said Pratap Reddy.

 

SP Dr Boralingaiah also assured quick action in the case and said that FIR has already been registered against the arrested people. A clear picture will emerge only after further investigations, said Dr Boralingaiah.

 

Roshan said that around 6 to 8 persons were in the prayer house, when a group barged into and began assaulting with least concern for elderly women, said Roshan.

 

Roshan took a few mobile clippings on his phone and also informed SP Dr Boralingaiah and Shirva police, who rushed to the spot.

 

 

‘This prayer house is functioning since 12 years. Bajrang Dal had given warned in the past, but never attacked. Eight years ago, they had attempted to attack but timely action by the police had foiled their plan,’ said Roshan.

I strongly condemn this incident. Who has given authority to Bajranga dala to attack churches or prayer houses? Why Karnataka Government FAIL to control these kind of incidents? I am really saddened by the incident. Though I did not had chance to attend the prayer services of Mr.Roshan, but i have met those people who attended this prayer services and bet you they are good human beings. They are loving, helpful to the neighbours in their needs. I would call them as, people who are healed". As long as Mr. Roshan does not harm anyone what's wrong in his way of getting people to pray and celebrate?. We should encourage him rather than accuse him. "Where two or three gather together to pray, I am there". Olden christen communities never had sculpted buildings (churches) to pray but gathered together in communities to pray and praise.....later they became instutionalized. As Karl Mark well said, "All institutionalized religions are far from its originator". How true it is! Can anyone digest this? This incident is totally wrong and culprits should be punished. Mr.Roshan, please keep your good work going but let's not condemn any religions. Lets not forget that all religions are equal.....none are superior to other and all try to lead us to God.

I dont feel this prayer conducted with the permission of church priest or with the permission of Bishop. I never seen or very rarely seen Mr. Roshan coming for mass at belle. I am against for this attack, but i disagree with these kind of prayer. We are very forward in preaching, but we are very back in following what we preach.If anybody wants to conduct prayer meeting, please get permission from church priest.

While I dislike Roshans weekly noise pollution, I pity bhajrangi members for their ill informed way of taking law into hands. What they did was unnecessary without knowing the consequences of law and constitution. These youth are motivated by some agenda and will be tired soon running around court and lawyers. If they get any opportunity to abroad for better prospects will be ruined. They are motivated by someones idea without understanding the causes. I believe most of these youth are neither rich nor highly or properly educated. Political leaders should encourage youth towards good education, hard work and to live with dignity. They should not use youth of any community for their games and vested interests. After few months or years cases will go on and supporters will abandon one by one. By then youth will lose their prime productive part of life and reduced to mere loser. Only one or two out of thousand will get elevated political career for the rest only agony and street is in store! For peaceful village like Moodubelle where communities living with harmony for generations does not deserve both Roshan and Bhajrangi type of activities. We should support youth on education!

It is very clear from the video that the prayer meetings were taking place since 12 years and the owner of the place has taken authorities permission to conduct such meetings. The attackers are using the very complicated word called conversion to mislead people thus gain the advantage of the situvation for the selfish motive . The pictures of the culprits to be published in all medias and given severe punishment to stop repeation of these cowardly acts. These unemployed goons are real challenges to the society.

I was under the impression that Moodubelle has no Bhajrangi problems! May be outsiders bringing a bad name to Moodubelle. Roshan should reduce the volume of his loud speaker to avoid such problems. God will still listen to prayers with low volumes because of less noise pollution! Now a days some people enjoy hyper active prayers....Avaravara Bhavakke..avaravara bhakuthige!!
