Mangalore airport goes international
Mangalore, 04 Oct 2012 (TOI): The Union cabinet on Thursday accorded international status to Mangalore airport.
Confirming this, Union minister for corporate affairs and power M Veerappa Moily told TOI from Delhi: The proposal to declare Mangalore as international airport was approved at the Union Cabinet meeting. I have talked to Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh to inaugurate the International Airport and he has agreed. My endeavour is to see that the inauguration happens before the present airport director (MR Vasudeva) retires this month end,’’ Moily said.
Udupi-Chikmagalur MP K Jayaprakash Hegde, who had also carried out communication with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, said he was glad that the international status to the airport was accorded expeditiously. He started communicating with the ministry after his visit to Dubai where expatriates put up the demand. Hegde had received communication from the ministry on September 15 stating that the matter was under consideration of the ministry.
