M’belle: Children’s day celebrated at English Medium School

Moodubelle, 14 November 2011: Children’s day celebrations were held in St. Lawrence English Medium School, Moodubelle at the school auditorium on Saturday 11th November 2011 from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm. The program began with prayers by the students. Rosley Quadros welcomed the guests and the gathering. Mrs. Meera Lobo – Former Secretary of Parish Pastoral Counsel was the Chief Guest. The program was presided over by Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes – Correspondent of the School and Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Church Moodubelle. Rev.Fr. Lancy Saldhana – Headmaster of the School and also the School Parliament members were on the dias.

 

Daizy 8th Standard student spoke few words about Children’s day. Chief Guest Mrs. Meera Lobo began her speech by wishing all the students a Happy Children’s Day. Speaking further she said that, the day however comes for the children around the world only on 20th November as it was the day when the UN General assembly accepted the declaration of children’s rights in 1959.

 

In India the Children’s day is celebrated on account of Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru’s Birthday on November 14th. He was the First Prime Minister of India after independence. As is well known he had extreme Love on children. Nehru worked passionately for the welfare of children and youngsters soon after independence. He was keen about welfare education and development of children in India. He was fond of children and thus became popular as Cha-cha Nehru among his little admirers.

 

 

After his death in 1963 his Birthday has been celebrated as children’s day in India. Children’s day is not just a day to let the future generation have it say. It is a day to remember a leader, who in his quiet but determined way laid the foundation to convert an emerging nation into a world power. On children’s day tribute is paid to all children in the world. Children are loved by one and all. They win our hearts with their angelic eyes and innocent smiles. It makes one realize that maybe that’s the  way  God wanted us to be.

 

The young student Ruben Saldanha presented a flower on behalf of the children to Fr. Joswey Fernandes – Correspondent of the School. Teachers had conducted various lucky games for the students on on the occasion of children’s day. Chief Guest Mrs. Meera Lobo gave away the prizes to the winners. Various cultural programs and dance programs were presented by the students. Finally Rosley Quadros proposed vote of thanks.
