Belman: Deepavali Celebrations held at St. Joseph School

Belman, 26 October 2011: The festival of lights which goes beyond caste or religion, provides equal feeling and joining the nation, which is a symbol of unity, said the Senior Gandhian, freedom fighter 89 year old Badiyadka Namadeva Shenoy. He was speaking upon inaugurating the Deepavali – 2011 celebrations by lighting the lamps with the gathering held at Belman St. Joseph School on Monday.
 
Speaking further Shenoy said that, the dreams of Mahatma Gandhi and Acharya Vinobhaji; the truth, non-violence, sacrifice and equal among all the religions has to be fulfilled. If the politics gets mixed up with the science it will cause destruction. Only when the spirituality gets along with the science then it will be possible for the development. Our Indian land is sacred, there is thought of spirituality and development of the whole world and Jai-Jagat is our slogan, he said.

 


 
Speaking on the occasion Chief Guest of the function Ravishankar - Education Officer, Karkala Public Education Department, said that the national rich festival Deepavali unites us all. Deepavali means for children it is the feast of fire crackers. He advised the children to burn the fire crackers safely in the presence of the elders and warned on the dangers involved. By celebrating the festivals together in the schools the children get the education of harmony, he said.
 
Gregory Menezes – Vice President of Church Parish Pastoral Council distributed the fire crackers ‘Nakshatra Kaddi’ to the students and conveyed the best wishes. Others guests and dignitaries present on the dias were; Lioness Gretta D’Souza, Belman Education Coordinator Shailaja Hegde, Hebri Education Coordinator Mahabala Nayak, Lioness Pramila Menezes, Grama Panchayath member Geeta Prabhu, Member Prabhakar Shetty, Belman Corporation Bank Manager U. Ashok Pai and Retired teacher Felcy D’mello.
 
On this occasion senior leader B. Namadeva Shenoy was felicitated on behalf of Lioness Club. Retired Teacher Marceline Saldanha was honoured with Deepavali honour. Senior Teacher Sewrine Mendonsa welcomed the guests and the gathering. School Headmistress Sr. Monica honoured the guests with flower bouquets. Teacher B. Pundalika Marathe compeered the program. Teacher Vincent Pinto proposed vote of thanks.
 
Dance teacher Harish, Drawing teacher Suresh Kulal, Physical teacher Harshendrakumar Jain had conducted the cultural programs. Deepavali feast lunch was organized for students and their parents.
