Mangaluru: Former vicar general, senior priest Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu passes away

Mangaluru, 16 Mar 2024: Former vicar general of Mangalore diocese Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu passed away on Saturday March 16. He was 84.

 

Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu is a native of Bajpe, son of the late Francis Moras and the late Juan Pereira. He was ordained a priest on December 5, 1967.

 

His journey of service began in 1968 as an assistant parish priest in Madanthyar, and transitioned to the role of a teacher in Shirva from 1969 to 1971. From 1971 to 1975, he served as the assistant director at St Antony’s, followed by a pivotal role as the vocation director for the diocese from 1973 to 1975. His passion for nurturing vocations led him to serve as the vocation chairman from 1975 to 1977.

 

 

Msgr Prabhu served as the secretary of the CBE from 1975 to 1985, and director of the Family Life Service Centre from 1977 to 1986.

 

As parish priest at Milagres from 1985 to 1993, Permude from 1993 to 1996 and Urwa from 1996 to 2001, he served the spiritual needs of the community with compassion and dedication.

 

Msgr Prabhu was elevated to the position of chancellor of the diocese from 2001 to 2008. His remarkable journey culminated in his role as vicar general and director at St Antony Institution in Jeppu from 2008 to 2018.

 

After his retirement, Msgr Prabhu resided at White Doves, Mangaluru.

 

The mortal remains of the late Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu will be brought to White Doves chapel for viewing from 2 pm and will leave for Bajpe at 3 pm.

His funeral Mass and burial service will be held on Wednesday March 20 at 5.00 pm in St Joseph’s Church, Bajpe.
