Udupi, 31 July 2011: If anyone is capable of raising the voice then he or she can make uproar on any silly issue for any long time, this is what happened in the Udupi City Municipality meeting on Saturday. The issue of the uproar is whether a member of one ward going and working in another ward is right or wrong. This issue was raised by Congress member Anandi. She questioned the President ‘how many elected members are there in Kola ward which I am representing?’ this question seemed strange to everyone.
Recently when there was heavy rain, there was flood around the 8 houses for 3 days in our ward. I requested the Municipality President to arrange to clear the drain gutters for the flood water to flow off. He sent the JCB and the drainage gutter was cleared to solve the problem. But the member of other ward had come and closed the drainage gutter. When I am being the member of the ward is already there, who authorized for somebody else to come and do the work, she questioned in a strong voice.
When BJP member Yashpal Suvarna tried to stop her questioning, it was then revealed that he was the one who went to the other ward and did the work. Suvarna was supported by other party men Naveen Bandary, Shyam Prasad Kudwa and others in a raised voice. Anandi was supported by opposition party leader Jayananda. BJP argued that there is nothing wrong with a member of one ward working in other ward. But Congress members argued that, it is wrong, he should at least inform the other ward member. At this stage the meeting was like cock fight in a cage.
When this uproar got into personal prestige and political, former President Dinakara Shetty interfered and stopped the arguments. Other than this issue they discussed and decided on the issues of control of dog population and banning of plastics from 1st August. Also discussions on issues; LPG gas legal – illegal, city traffic, drinking water meter installation, Chief Minister health project and other issues. President Kiran Kumar, Vice President Bharathi Chandrashekar and Paurayuktha Gokuldas Nayak were on the dias.
