Mangaluru: DRI sleuths nab Jet Airways technician for smuggling gold worth Rs 34.41 lac

Mangaluru, 26 Jul 2017: The sleuths of directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) nabbed an aircraft maintenance technician with Jet Airways at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA), for his involvement in gold smuggling worth Rs 34.41 lac.
Lal Bin Jean, who is working with Jet Airways maintenance technician at MIA was arrested with gold weighing 1,166.5 kilograms worth Rs 34.41 lac, while in the process of extracting the gold hidden in toilet of aircraft that arrived from Gulf country by the sleuths of DRI.
Lal Bin Jean acting as agent passing the gold. On a sure tip-off, the sleuths of DRI arrested Lal Bin Jean whilst in the act from the aircraft that arrived from Dubai, on Tuesday, July 25.
Jean was paid Rs 20,000 for handling contraband gold, said DRI deputy director Vinayak Bhat.
Jean confessed of the crime and said he was supposed to hand over the gold to an agent at City Center Mall, here, on Tuesday evening.
He was presented before the judge who awarded him judicial custody.
