Bantwal: Aati celebrations need to transpire one to bygone era - D M Kulal

Bantwal, 26 Jul 2017: The celebrations of Aati should get the true experience of bygone generation to understand its significance, said Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy former member D M Kulal.

 

Kulal was speaking on ancient belief in Aati celebrations after inaugurating Aatidonji Koota, by planting a sapling of aloe vera during the function held at Balavikasa English Medium School, Mani, near here, on Wednesday, July 26.

‘There are many reasons for laying special significance to Aati month by our forefathers. Its not mere superstitious belief, there are scientific reasons involved in its celebrations that have been proved in recent times,’ said Kulal.

 

Our ancestors lived in times of no internet, but had close relations with Mother Nature in its various forms. The practice of Aatikalenja (a man donning the costume of Aatikalenja)– celebrant goes door-to-door during this month, in order to wade off evil spirits and bring happiness  to household families, added Kulal.

 

Meanwhile, Kulal called on the students to get info about the nature foods that enhances immunity for good health. 

 

The School correspondent Prahlad J Shetty in his presidential address, urged the students to learn about the different species of plants and medicinal plants, traditional farming from veterans.    

 

The School administrator C Sridar expressed concern over lack of humanity that has been witnessed in the recent times.    

 

The School governing council secretary Narayan Shetty Kombila, Pushpalata S Naik, PTA president Balakrishna Alva, vice rpesidnet Laxmi Teacher, High School head teacher Vijayalaxmi V Shetty, Primary School head teacher Grace P Saldanha were present at the dais.

 

The teacher Leela welcomed the gathering. Shubha K proposed vote of thanks. Sudha Rao compered the programme.

 

An exhibition of different medicinal plants was held at the school, while the student rishma Alva offered info about each plant.

 

After the stage programme, the students presented variety cultural shows that depicted Aati celebrations in erstwhile Tulunadu and farming methods of forefathers.
