Installation Ceremony for new office bearers of Rotary Club Shankerpura held at Rotary Bhavan

Udupi/Shankerpura, 01 Jul 2017: Rtn. William Naveen Barboza has been installed as New President of Rotary Shankerpura and Rtn. Vincent Saldanha as new Secretary by Installation Officer Rtn. PDG Soorya Prakash Bhat in a glittering ceremony held at Rotary Bhavan Shankerpura on 28 June 2017. It was also the celebration of Charter Day wherein a large number of Rotary members and guests attended from many neighbouring Rotary Clubs.

 

The installation ceremony began sharp at 6:30pm by prayer song followed by warm welcome by Rtn. Anil D’Sa to the honorary guests on dais namely Installation Officer Rt. PDG Soorya Prakash Bhat (Asst. Rotary Co-ordinator, R.I. Dist.3181), Guest of Honour Rtn. Hari Prakash Shetty B (Asst. Governor, Zone V), Rtn. Naveen Amin (Zonal Lieutenant, Zone V). Rtn. Naveen Barboza (President Elect, Rotary Shankerpura 2017-18). Rtn. Vincent Saldanha (Secretary Elect 2017-18).

 

 

Rtn.Naveen Barboza read out the report of 2016-17 highlighting various achievements of Rotary Shankerpura i.e. mainly holding Monthly Psychiatrist Camps for the mentally retarded and helping out dozens of noble causes for the underprivileged people and supporting various students. He said the Rotary Shankerpura (Zone V, R.I. District 3182) has been doing its best to support many causes and has won 21 awards during 2016-17 which in itself a great achievements by past president Rtn. Anil D’Sa and other members of the club.

 

Rtn. Anil D’Sa (Past President) expressed his feelings on the occasion and thanked each and everyone for the contribution for the success of Rotary Shankerpura which resulted in winning 21 District Awards in 2016-17. He was grateful for Rtn. Naveen Barboza (Secretary 2016-17 and all committee members who supported him whole heartedly.

 

Rtn. Mark Vaz introduced the Chief guest of the day and installation officer Rtn. PDG Soorya Prakash Bhat and highlighted various posts he has held at Rotary International level. Rtn. Chandrakant D’Sa introduced the new elect President Rtn. Naveen Barboza and New Elect Secretary Rtn. Vincent Saldanha.  

 

The main event of the day the Installation Ceremony of the new office bearers i.e President Rtn. Naveen Barboza and Secretary Rtn. Vincent Saldanha was performed by Rtn. PDG Soorya Prakash Bhat and installed them as New President and Secretary respectively for the year 2017-18.

 

Rtn. Naveen Barboza thanked the Installation Officer and followed by honouring all members of Rotary Shankerpura.

 

Rtn. Nandan Kumar read out the names of the students who excelled academically (SSLC and PU College in the year 2016-17 and they were honoured with Rotary Certificates by Chief Guest of the day Rtn. PDG Soorya Prakash Bhat.

On the auspicious occasion Dr. Vincent Alva who took over charge of Milagres College Kallaynpur as Principal was honoured by Chief guest and other members of the Rotary Club Shakerpura. He was honoured with traditional shawl, a fruit basket, a flower garland and a citation. Rt. Jerome Rodrigues introduced him to the audience.

 

In response to his honour receiving, Dr. Vincent said that normally if a professor close to the management is unanimously selected to the post of Principal but he was proud that he faced the real interview by a panel of seven highly qualified professionals in the field and he was based on his ability and administrative skills and not merely on recommendation. He also said Rotary Shankerpura is very close to him and he has visited the club on many occasions and today he is proud that the same club has honoured him. He appreciated the present and past members of the club for their unending support to him all the best and was grateful for them for this special honour.

 

 

Also on the occasion 3 children of Rotary members who excelled academically were also honoured with excellence certificates by the Chief Guest namely Annet Christon D’Mello (S/o. Rtn. Cliffered D’Mello) SSLC 89%, Annet Neil Barboza (S/o. Rtn. Naveen Barboza) SSLC 88%, Annet Chrisel Jenicia D’Sa (D/o. Rtn. Chandrakanth D’Sa) PUC Science 84%.

 

 

The Rotary Special Magazine “Sourabha" was released by Rtn. Hari Prakash Shetty B. (Asst. Gov. Zone V).

 

In his key note address Rtn. Prakash Bhat highlighted the ills of Mobile phones and other electronic gadgets by younger generation. He said “when were young, we lived in a joint family and there was a strong family bond with developed into strong persons physically and emotionally. We could face any challenges,  we were not rich but were happy with whatever available to fill our stomach. We were totally engrossed with our local games, and with our parents and grand parents, talking to them, listening to their advise, stories and to be with them was a pleasure. However, current generation he said is very far from these values." Some of the incidents he narrated were children are glued to their phones and parents to tv sets for serials. The dinner at table is set and every one takes their own turn and eats at their leisure time and not together as in the olden days all used to sit and eat and discuss family matters, children affairs and listen to children. But today each one hav their own rooms and most of the time the kids inside door shut and engrossed in watching movies or chatting. He said this need to be corrected, we need come back at least in instillation values in our children, sit together, talk and have that lost family bond.   

 

Earlier he appreciated Rotary Club Shankerpura for starting the program dot on time and that should be role and example for all other clubs in the area. He said he has been attending club programs widely and has been stranded for lack of sense of time, such as delay in starting the program, lengthy talks and waste of time etc. He also said the Free Medical Camp held by Rotary Shankerpura every month and which is currently running 160th Psychiatric Camp must be the only unit in the world to do so. He commanded and appreciated Rotary Shankerpura for their great humanitarian deed by holding this free treatment camps for mentally retarded people and other camps and programs they are holding to serve the poor and under-privileged must be commanded and appreciated. He wished the Rotary Shankerpura all success in their future endeavours and good luck to the newly elected office bearers.

 

The great event concluded with vote of thanks and thereafter sumptuous dinner was served for all the attendees.
