Mangaluru: Vidya Dinkar complains to CM about KIADB exploiting old laws to acquire land

Mangaluru, 08 Jun 2017: Vidya Dinkar, crusader of anti-Mangaluru Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) complained to Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah that Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) is exploiting old laws to acquire farmlands for the expansion of Mangalore Refineries and Fertilizers Limited (MRPL).

 

The delegation of farmers led by Vidya Dinkar met CM Siddaramaiah at Vidhan Soudha, Bengaluru, on Wednesday, June 7, explained the latter that Karnataka High Court had already issued orders not to acquire lands with the provisions of old laws. Although UPA-led union government passed new Land Acquisition Act in 2013, KIADB issues notices to land owners in reference to old laws.

 

 

KIADB decided to acquire 850 acres of land in Kuttettoor and Permude villages for the expansion of MRPL. Meanwhile, 900 acres of land that lies adjacent to MRPL compound wall in Tokoor village for setting up JESCO is disused since several years. The same land that was not used for setting up JESCO or any other industry can be given away to MRPL for its expansion, instead the officials of KIADB are attempting to snatch the farmlands of small and tiny farmers driving them into street. Furthermore, 750 acres of land that was acquired for setting up MSEZ is also disused. Despite all this, KIADB is functioning in lines of real estate mafia, queried Vidya Dinkar.

Deputy Commission did not submit report

CM Siddaramaiah recalled the earlier meeting of Vidya Dinkar complaining the unnecessary land acquisition, CM said that he had instructed Deputy Commissioner in January 2017, to submit the report of lands that remained vacant after serving industrial purpose that was not received from Deputy Commissioner. ‘I will clarify the issued with the office of chief secretary and take appropriate action after receiving the report. Besides, I will take review the provisions of old acquisition Act that has been referred by KIADB for land acquisition,’ said CM.

 

Farmland Conservation Committee president Lawrence D’Cunha, Ramachandra Bhat and Dhiraj were present in the delegation.
