Melbourne: Kannada always promoted peaceful literature - Hamsalekha

Melbourne, 21 May 2017: Thirteenth World Kannada Cultural Convention that was jointly organized by United Kannada Sangh – Australia and Manjunath Education Trust®, here, from May 13 to May 14, was attended by a large number of Kannadiga NRIs from different provinces of Australia.

 

The Convention chairman Dr Hamsalekha inaugurated the event on the stage set on the late Dr K A Ashok Pai at Kingston Arts Centre auditorium, here, on May 13.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Hamsalekha said, ‘Kannada always promoted peaceful literature. If you open the history books of Kannada, nowhere one can find hate literature. The psalmists were successful in stemming the violence by their literature and words of wisdom. The psalmist Basavanna was successful in reforming the fundamentalists’ mindsets by his psalms. It’s the revolution undertaken by Basavanna to promote peace,’ said Hamsalekha.

 

The sandalwood actor Dr Mukhyachandru was the chief guest said, ‘The Kannadigas are worried that English is threatening other mainstream languages. It’s not true, because Kannada is a rich language that thrived in throughout in history. It’s because of the support extended by Karnataka state administration and pro-Kannada organizations,’ he said.

 

 

 

 

World Kannada Cultural Convention Committee honorary chairman Dr Kadabam Ramesh, Karnataka MLC R Chowda Reddy, Indian-origin Australia politicians Gandhi Bevinakoppa and Rampal were the guests of honor spoke on universal brotherhood.

 

The Australian minister for human resources Allen Tudge said, ‘We are the nation of multi-cultures, and we respect culture and literature of all.  The Kannadiga Convention indeed given us an opportunity to foster bond between both India and Australia,’ said Allen.

 

Members of Parliament Stykos and Gow Julia Fin lauded the contributions of Kanndiga and Indians to Australia.

 

World Kannada Cultural Convention founder chairman K P Manjunath Sagar in his preliminary address express happiness over the success of World Kannada Cultural Convention that has indeed brought the Kannadigas closer to their roots. 

 

A poets’ session was moderated by litterateur and poet Chandrashekar Gatti Boloor. The renowned comedian Mandya Ramesh, Naveen D Padil Mangaluru and Mahadev Sattigeri Dharwad presented rib-tickling jokes and comedies.

 

The renowned musicians Lata Hamsalekha, Go Na Swamy, Geetha Satyamurti and Shivaraj Mangaluru presented musical concert.

 

The cultural troupes from Bengaluru have presented folk-art and puppets show that enthralled the viewers, bringing back the sweet memories of their life in Karnataka.

 

United Kannada Sangh president Manjunath M H in his welcome address marveled at the mega gathering of Kannadigas at the Convention.

 

S Sindhu compered the programme. United Kannada Sangh secretary Suresh Gowda proposed vote of thanks.
