Mumbai: Bunts community celebrates Bisu Parba with cultural extravaganza

Mumbai, 15 Apr 2017: Bunts Sangha Mumbai(R) organized the celebrations of Bisu Parba, Bunts Day – 2017 at Radhabai Timmappa Bhandary auditorium, Bunts Bhavan, Kurla (East), here on Friday, April 14.
Mumbai Cricket Association honorary joint secretary Dr P V Shetty and World Bunts Federation vice president Aikala Harish Shetty and Nandavara – Vinayaka Shankaranarayana Durgamba temple managing trustee A C Bhandary were the chief guests of the occasion.
The dignitaries inaugurated Bisu Parba, in a traditional manner.
Speaking on the occasion, A C Bhandary said, ‘Mumbai is heaven for Tulu/Kannadigas. Bunts community contributed significantly in rejuvenation of temples, education institutions and society in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district. Bunts who made Mumbai as their abodes, are ambassadors of Tulunadu. Their discipline, time consciousness, methodology is their strength and worthy to emulate,’ said A C Bhandary.
Bunts Sangha Mumbai(R) president Prabhakar L Shetty presided the programme.
Bunts Sangh Mumbai(R) vice president Padmanabha S Payyade, honorary general secretary Ultoor Mohandas Shetty, honorary treasurer chartered accountant I R Shetty, joint secretary Kishore Kumar Shetty Kutyar, joint treasurer Mahesh S Shetty, women wing president Lata Jayaram Shetty, youth wing president Vivek V Shetty were present.
Kananjar Anand Shetty Memorial Yakshagana Kala Prasasti was presented to veteran artiste Chikkayya Shetty, in recognition of his 5 decades of service. Prema Narayan Rai Prasasti was presented to Poornima Yatish Rai. Top Just Critic Award was presented to Bantaravani – monthly bulletin editor-in-chief Ashok Pakkala during the programme.
The sponsors of awards: Sudhakar S Hegde, Ranjani S Hegde, K K Shetty, Praveen Shetty, Jayanti Shetty, Dr Sunita M Shetty, Jyoti R Shetty and others were present.
Dr P V Shetty released sixth edition of Tulunadina Kattu Kattalegalu book, sponsored by Padmanabha S Payyade and Raghu P Shetty on the same occasion.
Dr P V Shetty said that Bisu Parba depict the culture of Bunts community that is of great significance. He further said, ‘I have tried to modernize cricket in western suburb that has contributed for my success. I am thankful to my community for encouraging my leadership qualities,’ said Dr Shetty.
The cultural Committee president Ravindranat M Bhandary welcomed the gathering and delivered the preliminary address. Prashanti D Shetty rendered the prayers. Dayasagar Chowta introduced the dignitaries. Ashok Pakkala compered the programme. Jaya A Shetty proposed vote of thanks.
Variety cultural events including Yakshagana play were staged throughout Friday, April 14, as part of Bisu Parba celebrations.
