Udupi: Maundy Thursday observed with great devotion at Pangla Parish Shankerpura

Pangla/S.Pura, 15 Apr 2017: Maundy Thursday was observed with great devotion to commemorate the last supper of Jesus Christ at St. John Evangelist Church, Pangala attended by a large number of devotees.
The service began at 6:30pm and con-celebrated by Rev. Dr. Leslie D’Souza (PP) along with Rev. Fr. Vincent Coello (Principal - St. John’s Academy), Rev. Fr. Lawrence Mendonsa (Resident Priest) and Deacon Bro. Roy Lobo.
The Maundy Thursday liturgy is the beginning of the three day celebrations of the Easter which signifies Tridum, remembering the last supper, the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ and resurrection to new life.
In his meaning homily, Bro. Roy Lobo emphasized on the significance of Holy Thursday. He narrated the three significant events that take place on Maundy Thursday i.e. the Holy Eucharistic Mass which Jesus for the first time during the Last Supper, the second Blessing of Priests as Jesus was called The Priest and Third The commandment of love - i.e "Love thy neighbour as you would love yourself" which Jesus manifested by washing the feet of the apostles. He humbled himself to be the servant of servants and thereby taught us Christians to serve one another with utmost love and humility.
Fr. Leslie D’Souza carried out the ritual of washing the feet of 12 persons including women, men and youngsters chosen from the various ministries. The Maundy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with Apostles and Jesus washing the foots’ of his disciples.
At the end Fr. Leslie placed the Eucharist in the altar of repose for silent adoration and a brief adoration was held. The adoration continued ward wise until midnight.
