Karkala: 13th Taluk Kannada Sahitya Sammelan highlights need for sustenance

Karkala, 05 Feb 2017: ‘The culture lies in every language,’ said MLA V Sunil Kumar. MLA Kumar was speaking after inaugurating 13th Karkala taluk Kannada Sahitya Sammelan at Kodimar Gopalakrishna Tantri stage of Fr Nicholas Cornelio auditorium, St Joseph’s School, Belman, near here on Saturday, February 4.
He further said, ‘There should be serious discussion on sustaining Kannada medium schools that should be implemented very soon,’ said MLA Kumar.
The veteran Kannada litterateur Dr Jayaprakash Mavinakuli in his presidential address said that every Kannada Sahitya Sammelan should foster Kannada culture and work towards its sustenance.
The renowned cultural scholar Veena Bannanje after releasing collection of critical articles authored by Dr Mavinakuli said, ‘The children in Karnataka lack proper knowledge of Kannada culture owing to lack of guidance,’ said Veena. She further said that the teenagers’ life has become so lowly. The family relations are breaking up and everyone is happy to live separately, so believe the times that we live are in Kaliyug. All WhatsApp messages are far from truth. The Sammelans ought to serve as platform for unveiling true living.
Udupi district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Nilavar Surendra Adiga in his keynote address expressed concern over sustenance of Kannada.
The Sammelan past president Dr B Janardhan Bhat, honorary president – St Joseph’s parish priest Fr Sunil Joseph Veigas, ZP member Uday Shetty, TP member Asha Devendra Shetty, Belman gram panchayat president Mallika Rao, Belman assistant parish priest Fr Joswin Praveen D’Souza, Nandalike Suhas Hegde, St Joseph’s Higher Primary School head teacher Sr Lucy Pereira, High School head teacher Anita Kamalini, Sammelan secretary B Pundalika Marate, Parishat district secretary Narayan Madi, Shekar Ajekar and others were present.
Karkala taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Kondalli Prabhakar Shetty welcomed the gathering. Narayan Shenoy proposed vote of thanks. Ganesh Jalsoor and Sangeeta Kulal comepred the programme.
The students of St Joseph’s School presented variety cultural shows depicting Kannada culture.
