Chennai: Karnataka Sangha presents Yakshagana Talamaddale, milestone in cultural history

Chennai, 29 Jan 2017: In a landmark in Chennai’s cultural history, Karnataka Sangha – T Nagar, Chennai, 68-years-old Kannada Association under its leadership of president P Narayana Bhat and general secretary B Shashikala R Rao organized a Yakshagana Talamaddale by women Yakshagana troupe of Durgamba Yakshagana Mandali, Suratkal, Mangaluru, here recently. It was their 100th show in Chennai.

 

On this occasion, Mandali director, Vasudeva Rao Suratkal was honored for his outstanding contribution to the Yakshagana field and for training new generation of artistes. Its president Sulochana V Rao appreciated Karnataka Sangha for providing them opportunity to perform their 100th program in Chennai.

Last year, inspired by Durgamba Yakshagana Mandali, a few talented lady members of Karnataka Sangha floated a Talamaddale group and successfully performed their maiden Talamaddale programme, ‘Billa Habba,’ under the guidance of Vasudeva Rao. Enthused by their success, they will present shows at Sri Krishna Mutt, Udupi and other important places across undivided Dakshina Kannda district during March 2017.

 

On the occasion of centenary celebrations, Yakshagana Talamaddale episode, ‘Sudharshana Vijaya,’ was staged by Durgamba Yakshagana Mandali. A well known young lady artiste KavyaShree on Bhagavatheke, Mumbai Sahitya Academy Award recipient Apoorva  R Surathkal on Chende Vadana, Ashwini Acharya - Sudharshana, Sulochana V Rao, Malathi Venkatesh, Kalavathy and K Kalavathi participated and presented a remarkable performance.

 

Karnataka Sangha Mahila Yakshagana group Bhagavat B M Raivndra Rao also joined the Surathkal team. Each and every artiste of the troupe were highly talented. 

 

President of Karnataka Sangha praised the real heroes of the show and their efforts in preserving Tulunadu culture and heritage in order to pass on this fine folk-art to the next generation.
