Moodbidri: Tiger strays into inhabited land, kills calf in Niddody

Moodbidri, 14 Jan 2017: A tiger killed a female calf from the cow pen of Macchar Balike Lokesh Shetty, residing at Kallakumer – Palke, at the limits of Niddody gram panchayat, near here on Friday, January 13 night.
The tiger preyed on the calf that was tied outside the cow pen located behind their house, on Friday night. The insomniac neighbor who was smoking sitting outside his house saw the tiger rushing towards the cow pen. He wanted to wake up his family and see for himself what would happen, but he dared not to.
The menace of tigers and leopards was witnessed in 2016, as few pet dogs had gone missing. The people fearing wild animals attack stopped venturing out after sunset. The thirsty wild animals used to come to the nearby rivulet to drink water during March, but this they are spotted in January itself.
Moodbidri forest officer Lokesh Shetty arrived at the spot along with foresters on the basis of complaint by the locals.
The foresters will gather clues in trapping the predator tiger, said Shetty.
Aftermath of the tiger attack, the local residents are rushing home to reach before sunset.
