Bengaluru: Fatal Attraction-Husband shoots wife’s lover, she commits suicide

Bengaluru, 14 Jan 2017: A 28-year-old woman hanged herself at a hotel after her husband allegedly shot and killed an advocate, said to be her lover, near Acharya College on Tumakuru Road. The accused man had reportedly fixed a GPS device on her vehicle and was tracking her movements for the last six months.

 

The police identified the woman as Shruthi Gowda, a panchayat development officer at Railway Gollahalli gram panchayat in Nelam­angala. The man who was shot was Amith Keshav Murthy (33), an advocate in Nelamangala.

 

The husband, Rajesh (31), is a resident of Kaggalipura. After the murder, Rajesh along with his father Gopala Krishna (78), whose revolver was used for the shooting, reportedly went to the police and surrendered before them. Rajesh used his father’s licensed weapon.

 

Shruthi and Rajesh have a child. Amith, a resident of Ramohalli near Nelamangala, was also married and has a son. As per reports, Shruthi and Amith had known each other for two years. Rajesh and his father had warned both of them multiple times over the relationship.

“Rajesh was extremely frustrated with the relationship. His father was associated with a political party and was very upset with his name being sullied. Rajesh had kept a close track on her and had even fixed GPS to her car. Due to the repeated warnings, both of them had stopped meeting in person for some time. However on Friday afternoon, when her car’s GPS pointed on Tumkur Road near 8th mile, Rajesh and his father started following her. They caught the couple red-handed near Acharya College,” said an officer.

 

Rajesh reportedly shouting at the two and fired three rounds at Amith of which two bullets hit him. When Amith died on the spot, Rajesh and his father escaped from the scene and went to the Soladevanahalli police station by 3.20 pm and surrendered before the police. Even though the advocate died on the spot, Shruthi moved him to the nearby Sapthagiri hospital in her car.

 

“Afterwards, Shruthi drove to a hotel near the hospital. She booked a room in which she committed suicide between 4 pm and 4.30 pm. By then, Rajesh and Krishna who had surrendered before the police had given their preliminary statements. Subsequently, the police also received the medico-legal case memo from the hospital of Amith, the same person who had been shot dead. The police then tracked Shruthi’s whereabouts through her car’s GPS device. We found the car parked near the lodge. A team of policemen who went to the lodge learnt that the woman who had come in the car had booked a room. By the time, the police went to the room, she had locked the door and committed suicide. The police had to break open the door to gain entry,” said an officer.

 

Amith was the son of Keshav Murthy, who is the president of Nelamangala Advocates Association. Amith, a practising advocate is said to be an active advocate in Nelamangala since the last one decade. In between, he had gone abroad for higher studies.

 

Amith’s aunt Venkatamma told media that they were not aware of his relationship. “All of us had partied on New Year’s Day and Amith was very happy,” she saids.
