Mumbai: Konkan parents need to encourage their children to speak Konkani - Bishop Perceval

Mumbai, 10 Jan 2017: Konkan Taram (Jerimeri) Mumbai® celebrated their silver jubilee at St Jude’s parish hall, Kurla (West), here on Sunday, January 8.

 

Bishop Perceval J E Fernandes of Mumbai was the chief guest, inaugurated the celebrations here on Sunday. He also released the commemorating bulletin during the programme.

 

 

St Jude’s parish priest and Konkan Taram director Fr Lancy Pinto, Fr Gabriel Maria, Fr Maxwell Furtado, Jagruti Kendra superior Sr Biana, entrepreneurs Albert W D’Souza, Gabriel Mendonca and Oswald Cordeiro, veteran theater artiste and director Francis Fernandes Cascia, Konkani movie producer Henry D’Silva Suratkal, Walter D’Souza Kalmady were the guests of honor.

 

Bishop Perceval in his inaugural address said, ‘Konkan Taram has been promoting mother tongue Konkani in Mumbai. The parents had to motivate their children to learn Konkani for sustenance,’ urged Bishop Perceval.  

 

Fr Lancy lauded the liturgical contributions of Konkan Taram at the parish. Its also promoting Konkani and its distinct culture in the parish.  

 

Konkan Taram vice president Meloni Cordeiro, John Veigas, Elias Pinto, Leo D’Souza, Joseph D’Souza and others were present.

 

The silent prayers were offered for the repose of veteran members Lawrence D’Souza Taccode, Denis D’Souza, Sunny A D’Souza and others.

 

Alita Pereira and Prezil Fernandes presented the welcome dance. Flossy J Veigas, Rosy D’Souza, Pascal Miranda, Marceline D’Souza, Emilia D’Souza, Jessy D’Souza, Eldrin D’Souza, Triza D’Souza and Joyson D’Souza presented flower bouquets to the guests.

 

The honorary secretary Flora D’Souza Kalmady and Clement Lobo compered the programme. The treasurer John Mascarenhas welcomed the gathering and proposed vote of thanks.

 

Pricilla, Maria and Valencia group presented dances as part of entertainment.

 

Nefi Rod, Antony Tauro, Muriel, Franky D’Souza, Sunita D’Souza and others presented songs of Konkani movie, Nashibacho Kel.  

 

The members of Konkan Taram, presented Konkani cocomedy drama, Limbe ani Mirsang, by playwright John R Mascarenhas.
