Mangaluru: Majority of Yakshagana artistes are poor - Sarvottam Shetty

Mangaluru, 07 Jan 2017: The majority of Yakshagana artistes are always in financial difficulties. Nearly 80 percent of artistes are poor except a few who are rich. At this backdrop, Yaksha Druva Patla Foundation® that was founded in 2016 is doing a worthy deed by helping the poor artistes, said Sarvottam Shetty, president of Dubai unit of Yaksha Druva Patla Foundation.
Sarvottam was speaking during the monthly meeting of Yaksha Druva Patla Foundation held at Pattumudi Souda, near Ballalbagh, here on Thursday, January 5.

Patla Foundation founder president Patla Satish Shetty, in his presidential address said that the Foundation distributed Rs 50 lac to Rs 55 lac to elderly Yakshagana artistes in just one year. A plot was identified to construct houses for poor elderly Yakshagana artistes. There are proposal to offer monthly pension of Rs 1,000 to poor artistes above the age of 60 years. In order to get this benefit, one had to work for 15 years in a Yakshagana troupe. The scholarship to the children of Yakshagana artistes will be hiked. The first anniversary of Foundation will be held on May 28. The trustees of Foundation will be issued with gold card during the event, said Satish.
Sarapady Ashok Shetty, Subbayya Shetty Kasargod, Gopal Shetty Karkala, Yam Na Chambaltimar, Santosh Kumar Rai Boliyar, Devanand Bhat Belvai and women unit president Poornima Yatish Rai also shared their views.
The Foundation honorary president Kallady Deviprasad Shetty, entrepreneur Peremanat Shetty Dubai, joint secretary Uday Kumar Shetty, Rajeev Poojary Kaikamba, organizing secretary Jagannat Shetty Bala were present.
The organizing secretary Kadri Navaneet Shetty welcomed the gathering. The vice president Dr Manu Rao proposed the vote of thanks. The general secretary Purushottam Bhandary Adyar compered the programme.
