Mangaluru, 16 Dec 2016: Education is indeed top charity. One gets status and respect in society because of education, said Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza.
Bishop Dr D’Souza was speaking during the golden jubilee celebration of St Joseph’s High School, Pezar, Kalavar, near Bajpe, here on Wednesday, December 14.
He further said, ‘Michael Faraday invented the electricity, while the skeptics questioned him what would one gain out of it. He replied, in 100 years the governments can earn huge amount. Likewise, a school that was opened at Pezar, near Bajpe, here 50 years ago benefitted the students, who are adorning high positions because education is the noble deed of charity,’ said Bishop Dr D’Souza.
The former state minister Abayachandra Jain said, ‘The school that one studied is the temple that reforms the student’s behavior. The mushrooming of English medium schools are threatening the existence of Kannada medium schools. Cordo Lights Company is donating Rs 8,000 to St Joseph’s High School, Pezar, here every month to sustain. Meanwhile, the responsibility lies in everyone to sustain Kannada medium schools.
DK district working journalists Association president Jagannat Shetty Bala said that early schooling determines the future of a student to excel in life.
The dignitaries brought in a procession accompanied by traditional music from Kalavar to the venue.
Bishop Dr D’Souza inaugurated the programme, while minster Jain released the golden jubilee bullen.
The teachers who served the school and are now retired were felicitated on the same occasion.
The variety cultural shows were presented by the students as part of entertainment.
The School correspondent Fr Remigious Aranha welcomed the gathering.
Catholic Board of Education secretary Gerald D’Souza, former mayor Divakar Kadri, ZP former president Ritesh Shetty, Kalavar gram panchayat president Adam, headmaster Ramesh Bhat, Ligory D’Souza, Danny Suvares and others were present.
Lacy D’Souza and Vinita Wilma Fernandes compered the programme. Joseph Albuquerque proposed vote of thanks.
