Three Retired Teachers honoured during Annual Day Celebration of Old Students Association Shankerpur

Shankerpura, 12 Dec 2016: The Old Students Association Shankerpura honoured three retired teachers of St. John’s Academy namely; Ms. Clara W. Mendonsa (HM- Kannada Medium), Ms. Ida Cornelio (HM-English Medium) and Ms. Esmy Fernandes (HM-Primary-Kannada Medium) during their annual day celebrations held on 9th December 2016.

 

The evening celebration began with a prayer by Rhia D’Souza and group followed by hearty welcome by OSA President Mr. Victor Mendonsa to the guests on dais namely Ms. Manjula V. Prasad (National Trainer Jayces, Udupi). Rev. Dr. Leslie D’Souza (Correspondence, St. John’s Academy), Rev. Fr. Vincent Coello (Principal, PU College), Mr. Gabriel F. Mascarenhas(HM High School Eng. Med), Mr. Mohandas Shetty (HM Kannada Medium), Sr. Winnie D’Souza (HM, St. John’s Academy Primary).

 

On the occasion, the outstanding students of St. John’s Academy honoured for their excellence records in academic, sports and other internal competitions held during 2015-16.  

 

 

The highlight of the celebration was honouring the retired teachers of St. John’s Educational Institutions Ms. Clara W. Mendonsa (HM- Kannada Medium), Ms. Ida Cornelio (HM-English Medium) and Ms. Esmy Fernandes (HM-Primary-Kannada Medium) (for their long and dedicated service to the institutions and students. They were honoured with shawls, garlands, fruit baskets and citation by Fr. Leslie D’Souza, Ms. Manjula Prasad, Fr. Vincent Coello and Mr. Victor Mendonsa. The citation was read by Mr. Naveen Amin (Committee Member OSA), Mr. Mohandas Shetty (HM) and Mr. Anil D’Sa (Member OSA) respectively highlighting their various achievements and selfless service to the institutions and dedication in grooming the students.

 

After receiving the honours all three teachers expressed their feelings and thanked the management, co-teachers and students for their love and affection showed to them during their tenure. They also thanked Old Student Association Shankerpura for remembering them and honouring on this occasion.

 

Ashwini Danthis (ICYM Pangla) introduced the honorary chief guest of the day Ms. Manjula V. Prasad who addressed the audience thereafter.  In her address to the parents especially she pointed out how our younger generation moving away from parents and relatives. She lamented on the limited knowledge and communication gap these kids are having and the problems they are facing later. She further said: “God can’t be everywhere so he created teachers and we cannot forget our teachers until our last breath" referring to the 3 teachers who were honoured on the occasion.

 

Fr. Leslie while addressing the audience praised the members of the Old Students Association for keeping in touch with school, teachers and students. He pointed out two personalities who were old students of our school 1) Prof. Suchit Kotian (MGM College Udupi) and Mr. S. Vijay (Member Katapady Gram Panchayat) who were the old students of our school and today working as leading personalities in the society and role model to our students. Both of them were invited for our School Annual programs and gave wonderful speeches with such a confidence and proud of our institutions. Secondly, he said those who are excelled with highest marks do not stay with us but the simple people like you stay with us and help us and our institutions to grow and give lift to our students by recognizing them by instituting awards and prizes. Today you have honoured your teachers and I am very proud of you dear old students. You have done a wonderful job by honouring your teachers” he said referring to members of Old Students Association of Shankerpura.

 

Mr. Domian Noronha (PTA St. John’s Academy) proposed vote of thanks.

 

On the occasion a tulu drama titled “Erendh Panodchi“ staged by members of OSA under the leadership of Mr. Naveen Ameen (Friends Caterers, Shankerpura). Prior to drama Deepak presented a bollywood dance performance and enthralled the audience.
