Mangaluru: Dr B R Ambedkar is a Global Icon - Prof Kumar

Mangaluru, 08 Dec 2016: ‘Dr B R Ambedkar is not only a national icon but also he is a global icon,’ said Professor Vivek kumar, Professor of Sociology, JNU.
He was delivering his keynote address after inaugurating a National Seminar- Dr B R Ambedkar perspectives on Dalit Politics and Empowerment in India and Dr B R Ambedkar’s 60th Mahaparinirvan day at Mangala Auditorium, Mangalore university-Mangalagangothri, here on Tuesday, December 6.
Dr B R Ambedkar was a Dalit leader. He is also Indian constitution maker. Not only constitution maker, he is a nation builder as well. He was also defending the position of an individual, as well as society. Self responsibility is necessary for dalit, other backward classes and for all individuals.
He further said that, because of Ambedkar many amendments were made out of 7,635 amendments of constitution. Books, journals, paper-clippings, direct observation, interviews with peoples had been source and foundation of his knowledge, he opined.
He was also spoken about Ambedkar’s movement of political and social reforms, his process of nation building, and the nature of constitution comparing 91 other constitutions of the world.
Professor K Byrappa, vice-chancellor of Mangalore University, in his presidential address said, ‘We are observing 125th birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar. Mangalore University has organizing various programmes in university and other affiliated college under Mangalore University jurisdiction,’ he said.
Professor K M Lokesh, registrar of Mangalore University and Professor Vishwanatha, director, Centre for Dr B R Ambedkar Studies were present.
