St Lawrence Shrine, Attur gets mobile connectivity after PMO intervenes
Karkala, 03 Dec 2016: St Lawrence Minor Basilica at Attur, Karkala has now been provided mobile connectivity after intervention of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
Sources say that as the shrine was located away from the city, visitors suffered from lack of connectivity. Repeated requests to the panchayat and elected representatives went in vain. Requests made to the Union Minister for Telecommunications Manoj Sinha also failed to solve the problem.
As the shrine witnessed downpour of devotees during the annual feast, absence of mobile connectivity was a hindrance.
It was then that Parish priest Fr George contacted the PMO on September 2 and posted a letter the next day. About a week later, he received a reply stating that action would be taken at the earliest. Soon after, Mangaluru’s BSNL division head assured the Parish priest that a micro mobile BTS tower would be installed in the area.
It is learnt that at present a temporary tower has been installed and a permanent one would be set up by the end of January.
Sources say that two landline phones which were dead from the past six months were also repaired.
