Mumbai, 14 Nov 2016: Holy Spirit Hospital, Andheri (E), here organized Cancer Survivors meet on Saturday, November 12, with the aim to inspire those who have been recently diagnosed of cancer. The word initially sparks a fear in the minds of patients and their family but there are umpteen cases of survivors and the will power exhibited by them motivated all those who were present at the event.
The department of oncology at the Cancer Centre conducted this meet as an outreach to the community and also to encourage the recently diagnosed cancer patients and show their families to provide ample support. Around 100 patients were present at the event. Their survival stories were shared along with the doctors’ various experiences with the patients and their innovations and improvements in cancer treatments.
The programme began with a prayer dance by the students of the nursing college, this was followed by a speech by Dr Ian D’Souza and then the survivor patients sharing their experiences and stories with the audience. There were people of all age groups as cancer survivors and most of their stories were very heart touching and some even brought a tear to their eyes.
‘We conduct this session often to ensure that the spirit and will power of those detected with Cancer is motivated. They should have a positive attitude for the medicines and treatment to fulfill and results will be visible,’ said Dr Ajay Kolse, radiation oncologist.
Some patients were felicitated for their recovery and a few doctors also displayed their talent to sing through motivational songs and kept the gathering entertained. By afternoon they wrapped up with a yoga session and games. A small session on how to cope with stress and health issues was also conducted for the benefit of patients and their families.
