Moodbidri: All India Inter-Varsity Cross Country Championship held at Alvas College

Moodbidri, 29 Oct 2016: ‘The greatest test of the courage on earth is to bear defeat without losing hearts, so everyone should accept the defeat with true sportsmanship. He added and said let sports win in this country and each one should strive for keeping the country high in the sports arena,’ said Pramod Madhwaraj, Karnataka minister for fisheries, sports and youth affairs. 

 

He was speaking after distributing prizes during All India Inter-University Cross Country Championship for Men and Women 2016-17 organized by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangaluru and Alva’s Education Foundation®, here on Friday, October 28.

 

He said, ‘Every Universities and colleges of this country should follow the education system of Alva’s Education Foundation balancing both academic and co-curricular activities.’ He added and said, in coming days ‘Krida Protsahaka’ award will be awarded to someone who has contributed in the field of sports and games giving hint to the audience without mentioning Dr Mohan Alva’s name.

 

 

Presiding over the programme, Dr K S Ravindranath, vice-chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences said, ‘One must take an active interest in sports and games which ensure good health and build a fine physique.’

 

About 130 universities throughout country participated in the event. Altogether 1,600 students participated including 119 boys and 115 girls teams. 

 

Long distance coaches Vijender Singh from Maharashtra, Manoj P G from Kerala, Radhakrishna H P were felicitated with Rs 10000 cash and public honor.  

 

Along with them, Rio Olympics participant of Alva’s College, here -  Dharun Ayyasamy and Commonwealth gold medalist Ashwini Akkunji were felicitated during the programme. 

 

 

Ranjith Kumar Patel of Alva’s College, here of Mangalore University got first place in men cross country race. Sanjeevani Jhadav from Pune University got first place in women category. Mangalore University with 138 points became overall champions and Punjab University Patiala with 212 points got the runners up position.  

 

In men team category Mangalore University with 69 points placed top position in the list and Punjab University of Patiala with 61 points emerged topper in the women category. 

 

Karnataka former ministers MLA K Abhaychandra Jain and K Amarnat Shetty, Moodbidri town councilor Roopa Santosh Shetty, Alva’s Education Foundation® chairman Dr Mohan Alva and others present in the occasion.
