Mangaluru: St Aloysius College observes World Food Day

Mangaluru, 19 Oct 2016: The DDU Kaushal Kendra, A UGC approved skill based job oriented programme centre at St Aloysius College (Autonomous) here, as part of World Food Day celebration organized a theme based event, Climate is changing, so food and agriculture must too, at L F Rasquinha hall, here on Tuesday, October 18.
Walter D’Souza, the managing director of Fernandes Cashews, here inaugurated the event, in the presence of Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ, principal of St Aloysius College, Fr Pradeep Sequeira SJ, finance officer, Fr Dr Melvyn D’Cunha SJ, head of department of M Sc food science and technology, Dr Ronald Nazareth,co-ordinator of Star College Scheme, Dr Adarsha Gowda, convener of World Food Day celebration.
In his inaugural address, Walter expressed his concern on reckless food wastage in and around the world. He has urged the government to provide more finance for the infrastructure development rather than giving food subsidy to the farmers. He also laid emphasis on preservation of food with improvement in cold storage facility at rural areas, in order provide safe and quality food.
In the keynote address by B N Girish, the vice president of Ocean Pearl Hotel urged the gathering to rethink on the food wastage and to consider ‘Food is life.’
An informative talk on the topic, Food insecurity and Safety, focusing on sea food was conveyed by Dr B N Manja Naik, associate professor, department of fish processing technology, College of Fisheries, here.
Fr Dr Praveen Martis SJ, Vice Principal and Director of DDU Kaushal Kendra welcomed the gathering.
The students of St Aloysius College presented variety cultural shows on the occasion.
