Mangaluru: Old Port in shambles; MLA Lobo to take delegation to Lakshadweep

Mangaluru, 13 Oct 2016: The old port is in disused state, while a top level delegation will be taken to Lakshadweep to urge the authorities in making alternative infrastructural developments, said MLA J R Lobo.

 

Addressing the media persons here on Wednesday, October 12, MLA Lobo said that the coolies are jobless because no vessels berth at old port that was bustling with activities till a few years ago. If this situation prevails, the port will be rendered defunct, cautioned MLA Lobo.

 

 

The waterways should be dredged to facilitate vessels to berth at the port with standby rescue unit, added MLA Lobo.

 

The investigations are under way to assess the ownership and encroachment of lands at Old Port and their dues to fisheries department, said MLA Lobo.

 

Vishwasdas, corporators Shailaja, Prakash Alape and Keshav Maroli, T K Sudhir, Shobha Keshav, Neeraj Pal, Dennis D’Silva, Mohan Mendon, Nelson Monteiro and others were present.
