Mangaluru: Dr Leela Upadhyaya chosen to confer Karant Award

Mangaluru, 09 Oct 2016: Dr Leela Upadhyaya selected to confer Karant Award by Kalkura Pratistan®. Dr Leela had done M Sc and diploma in French. She secured doctorate from Dharwad University and served as head of biology at St Ann’s College, here for 37 years.
She had toured France, Holland, Germany and Switzerland with Sri Ganesha Yakshagana puppet troupe that was founded by her husband K S Upadhyaya.
Its after the demise of her husband in 1996, she had taken the puppet troupe to present Yakshagana play in Pakistan, Thailand, Singapore, UK and other countries from 1996 to 2010. The heroic art of coastal district was introduced to distant lands through her Yakshagana troupe.
She was the founder principal of Sharada PU College, here. She had been taking part in discussions, talks and analytical speeches that are aired by AIR, Mangaluru since its inception.
She has formed the late K S Upadhyaya Trust and helps Yakshagana artistes and talented students.
The Award will be conferred to Dr Leela during a function scheduled to be held at Don Bosco Hall, here on Wednesday, October 13 at 5.00pm, stated the media release issued by S Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, chairman of Kalkura Pratistan®.
