PPC Boys and Jnanganga Girls win Udupi Taluk Junior College Volleyball Tournament

Udupi, 13 Sep 2016: In a thrilling final contest that extended for three matches, PPC Adamar PU College boys and Jnanganga girls teams emerged victorious by defeating St. Lawrence PU College boys and girls teams respectively in the Udupi Taluk level Volleyball Tournament that was held in the ground of St. Lawrence PU College on Tuesday, 13 September 2016. The boys and girls teams of the host St. Lawrence Junior College had the distinction of being runners up.
The inaugural function of the Udupi Taluk level Junior College boys and girls Volleyball Tournament was held in the morning at 10 am. Rev. Dr. Lawrence D’Souza, Secretary of Catholic Education Society of Udupi (CESU) presided over the inaugural function. Prashant Shetty “Shantala” Padubettu, a renowned businessman in Ballary, an old student of St. Lawrence PU College, Moodubelle and the cheif sponsor of the tournament was the chief guest. Other guests on the dais included Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions, Alphonse K. Alva, President of Parents-Teachers Association. Navin Correa, Principal of St. Lawrence PU College, Mrs. Leena D’Silva, Headmistress of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School and Joseph D’Souza, Physical Instructor of St. Lawrence PU College.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by Prashant Shetty by lighting the lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais.
Prashant Shetty, Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas and Rev. Dr. Lawrence D’Souza in their messages encouraged the students to aim at winning the tournament but not to be discouraged if they lose.
Principal Navin Correa welcomed the gathering, Joseph D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks and Shanbagh compered the programme.
Thereafter, the teams were introduced to the dignitaries who shook hands with the captains of the teams.
The dignitaries formally inaugurated the tournament by cutting off the ribbons holding the volleyballs to the nets.
A total of 10 boys teams and 5 girls teams from different colleges participated in the tournament. .
Following the end of the penultimate final tournament between PPC, Adamar and host college St. Lawrence PU College boys teams which was won by the PPC boys team by 2-1, a brief valedictory function was held at 6 pm. Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas handed over the Runners Up Trophy to St. Lawrence PU College boys and girls teams. Prashant Shetty gave away trophies to the winners of the tournament-PPC Adamar Boys and Jnanganga, Nellikatte Girls teams. Other dignitaries present for the valedictory function were Elias D’Souza-Proprietor of Civitech, Chandrashekar Shetty and Principal Navin Correa. Joseph D’Souza conducted the valedictory function.
