Little angels shine at fancy dress and singing competition organized by ICYM Pangala

Udupi/Shankerpura, 29 Aug 2016: It’s a tradition in Parish of St. John’s Evangelist Pangla to hold various competitions in preparation for the Feast of Nativity of B.V. Mary to be celebrated on 8th of September every year. The final day consists of athletics races which start after lunch and final traditional high voltage games such as tug-of-war and breaking the pots as special attraction of the day. ICYM Pangala unit takes responsibility of organizing all the games every year from as I remember from 1975. Prior to that only athletic games were held on the feast day itself. 

 

However, since 1975 loads of sports such as Cricket and Volleyball being held for high school and college boys and girls and various indoor competitions such as fancy dress and singing competition for the age group of 1 to 25plus prior to final day sports event.

 

 

The fancy dress and singing competition was held on Sunday the 28th August 2016 beginning at 2:30pm at the community hall for all. The Fancy dress was held for little kids up to PU college. The little angels of Pangla participated in fancy dress and singing competition enthusiastically. It was a great joy to the parents of little kids to watch them on the stage performing and little kids didn’t disappoint them and the audience. The fancy dress was supper to watch and singing competition was melodious to listen to enjoy good singing.

 

The ICYM President welcomed the participants and their parents and read out the rules of the competition. The judges for the fancy dress were Ms. Shalini (Lecturer PU College) and Mr. Mohandas Shetty (HM Kannada Medium High school, St. Johns). The judges for the singing competition were Ms. Shaila Fernandes (Katapady Parish), Mr. Santosh D’Silva and Ms. Clara D’Silva (Kalyanpur – Mount Rosary Parish).

 

Registration of participants was done by ICYM members Janice Fernandes and Helisha Fernandes. Announcements and MC was done by ICYM members Renson and Ginel. All the ICYM members helped in organizing the competitions successfully.

 

Joyson D’Sa (Secretary, ICYM) presented the mementos to the fancy dress judges Mr. Shalini and Mr. Mohandas Shetty.

 

The singing competition was held for age group of 1 to 21 (Solo) and 21 and above in the first phase and final was group singing i.e. Vovyo Verse (Ward Wise). Three wards participated in the competition i.e. St. Antony, St. Joseph and St. John. It was a treat to watch these group singing vovyo and verse melodiously.  

 

After the singing competition, Rev. Fr. Leslie D’Souza presented mementos to the singing competition judges. Oliver D’Sa (ICYM President), proposed vote of thanks. Fr. Leslie announced the names of winners of group singing.

 

The prizes for all the winners will be presented on Feast day at the cultural event.
