Karkala: Silver Jubilee celebration of Konkani Manyata Divas kicks-off with colorful procession

Karkala, 25 Aug 2016: India is the abode of people of diverse culture and languages that they are proud of. It’s significant that the native culture is blended in their mother tongue. Konkani is one among them, said Karkala MLA V Sunil Kumar.
MLA Sunil was speaking after inaugurating Konkani Manyata Divas – 2016, that was organized by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy at S V T education institution, here on Tuesday August 22.
‘We got to give due respect our mother tongue and the parents got to convince their children about the significance of their mother tongue. Mother tongue and native culture are correlated,’ said MLA Sunil.
Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Roy Castelino in his presidential address said, ’Forty-one communities speak mother tongue. There are communities in Hindu, Muslim and Christians whose mother tongue is Konkani. Meanwhile, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy has been committed to promote Konkani by organizing many programmes since 25 years of its inception,’ said Roy.
Karkala deanery Stree Sangatan president C Pricilla D’Souza, Christ King education institutions correspondent Evelyn Lewis, S V T education institutions correspondent K P Shenoy, Fr Joswey Fernandes, deputy councilor Giridar Nayak, entrepreneur Subash Kamat, Sri Kshetra Laxmipura managing trustee T A Jagdish Nayak, former MLA H Gopal Bhandary, event organizer Subash Kamat and others were present.
The Academy registrar Dr Devdas Pai proposed vote of thanks. George Castelino and Mohandas G Prabhu compered the programme.
Earlier, a colorful procession was with different groups of folk artistes, brass band etc.
