Mangaluru, 08 Aug 2016: Bola Chittaranjandas Shetty, aged 72 years renowned Kannada and Tulu litterateur, DK district Rajyotsav Award recipient passed away owing to cardiac arrest on Sunday August 7 at 4.00pm. The sudden demise indeed created a void in Tulu and Kannada literary sphere that none could replace.
Chittaranjandas was the first son born to Manjayya Shety and Rukmini Shetty couple in Bola village of Karkala in the present Udupi district.
He is the playwright of Tulu drama, Ponnu Mannda Bombe, also documented the heroic art of buffaloes race in coast district under the title, Kambula and over 300-page Kannada novel, Alidulidavaru, narrating the struggles of breaking away from joint families in Bunts community after Land Tribunal Act was introduced. The families became landless overnight and got to migrate to cities and towns across India and overseas in search of better opportunities.
He has also authored several books on different traditions and customs that thrived in Bunts community in their golden days. He is deeply religious and authored major book on Madwa sect in Udupi district.
He is the recipient of district Karnataka Rajyotsav Award – 2013 and was the chairman of Dakshina Kannada district Kannada Sahitya Sammelan. He is the recipient of Tulu Gowrav Prasasti – 2012.
He is survived by his wife and two children. The funeral rites will be held on Monday August 8 afternoon at Kuttarguttu, Tokkottu, here, informed the family sources.
