Puttur: Sudhana School students spend memorable day at paddy field away from classes

Puttur, 05 Aug 2016: It was a memorable outing for the school children. The students of Sudhana School who otherwise would have spent the day inside the classroom and playing in the grounds have spent the entire Thursday August 4 in a paddy field.

 

One-hundred-ten students of Sudhana School, near here have landed at the paddy field owned by Vasant Gowda and Narayan Gowda, residing at Shingani – Balnad, near here on study tour. They eagerly listened to the various stages of paddy cultivation, beginning from tilling, planting the saplings, manuring and harvest from the veteran farmers. The students accompanied by their teacher planted the saplings singing folk songs and enjoying the day out.

 

 

Gowda family was also engaged in dairy farming. The students viewed the gobar gas plant, compost pit, organic manure, vegetable crop, yolk and plough, method to make mura for keeping rice fresh in round-shaped bay secured with rope made out of bay.

 

They were overjoyed to wonder in lush greenery, seeking info on different plants and trees, walked on footbridge made out of areca tree laid across a stream, ran on the pathways around the paddy field, climbed hills etc.   

 

The farming tour was organized to get first hand info on farming that was related to Kannada lesson. The school teacher Kavita Adoor led the tour along with other teachers Ashalata, Saraswati G P, Pushparaj and Rajesh.

 

The School correspondent Pastor Vijaya Arvin, head teacher Shobha Nagaraj, administrator Jattappa Rai Kukkuvalli offered guidance.
