Mangaluru: Bantara Sangha - Suratkal celebrates Aatida Porlu; share Tulunadu delicacies

Mangaluru, 01 Aug 2016: Tuluva culture and traditions are correlated in mother tongue Tulu. As we achieve higher status and lead better lives, we got to take others from our community at par with us, said Dr Asha Jyoti Rai, president of women wing of Bantara Yane Nadavara Matra Sangha – Mangaluru.

 

Dr Asha was speaking after inaugurating Aatida Porlu, traditional Tuluva celebrations that was jointly organized by Bantara Sanga – Suratkal and Mahila Vedike at Bunts Bhavan, Suratkal, near here on Sunday July 31.

 

 

She further said, ‘Well cultured individual will have a socially refined personality. We got to culturally up bring our children from their childhood.  Bunts community got to be time conscious and contribute for the prosperity of fellow brethrens. The celebrations of Aati have scientific background that got to be understood,’ said Dr Asha.

 

Mumbai entrepreneur Kushala Bhandary after offering the motion for fundraising towards buying a plot for Bunts Sangh urged the community to be united for their common good.

 

The entrepreneur Gurme Suresh Shetty of Kaup, Udupi expressed concern over the near extinction of joint families in Bunts community that was a blessing for sharing labor and happiness. There lies need for nuclear families to restore joint family set up, said Suresh.   

 

Bantara Sangha – Suratkal president Ullas R Shetty sought the generous contributions from the community to buy a plot to develop infrastructure facility at Bantara Bhavan, Suratkal, here.

 

 

Kishore D Shetty, Dix Shipping managing director Devanand Shetty, Mahila Vedike president Chandrakala B Shetty, Bantara Sangha vice president Sudhakar Poonja, treasurer Praveen Shetty, joint secretary Jayaram Shetty, Mahila Vedike secretary Vijaya Bharati Shetty were the chief guests of the occasion. 

 

The secretary Sitaram Rai proposed vote of thanks. Rajeshwari Shetty compered the programme.   

 

The veteran of co-operative movement K Damodar Shetty, educationist P Sadhoo Poojary, progressive farmer Balakrishna Shetty Kuttettoor, artiste Padmanabha of Sharada Arts, teacher Meera Satish were felicitated during the programme.

 

Unique method of inauguration: The programme was inaugurated by baking jackfruit cake in a copper vessel on the stage itself and shared among the guests and gathering.

 

The varieties of fresh delicacies of Tulunadu that were prepared by the women members were shared among the gathering.
