New Delhi, 16 Jul 2016: At a time when the world focuses on France where a truck driven by a gunman mowed down 84 people and left scores injured on Thursday night, the government has released data on a string of terror strikes in India since 2005 that claimed more than 700 innocent lives and left over 3,200 injured.

The data, released by the home ministry in response to Hathras-based RTI activist Gaurav Agrawal, included the terrorist attack at Pathankot in Punjab on January 2 this year in which seven security personnel besides a civilian were killed and 37 others injured.

India’s commercial capital, Mumbai, suffered two deadly terror strikes since 2005. Seven bomb blasts in local trains on July 11, 2006 killed 187 people and injured 817. A little over two years later, terrorists from Pakistan launched an audacious attack on the city that lasted from November 26 to November 28, resulting in 175 deaths, including nine terrorists, while 291 were injured.

In the aftermath of Babri Masjid demolition, Mumbai had become the world’s first city to see unprecedented serial terror strikes through 13 RDX laden bombs that exploded simultaneously at various localities killing 257 and injuring more than 700. In July 2011, serial bomb blasts in Mumbai saw 27 dead and 127 injured.

Delhi too saw many terror attacks. Since the 1985 serial blasts through transistor bombs used by Babbar Khalsa that killed over 80, it had seen a lull till 2005. On October 29, 2005 serial blasts at Paharganj, Sarojini Nagar and a DTC bus at Govindpuri killed 50 and injured 105.

Delhi saw bomb blasts in September, 2008 killing 23 and injuring 156. Three years later, on September 7, 2011, a bomb blast at Delhi High Court killed 15 and injured 79.
