Burglary strike Mahishamardini temple, Punacha; decamp precious metal worth Rs 6.7 crore

Bantwal, 08 Jul 2016: The burglars struck 800-year-old historical Mahishamardini temple, in the limits of Punacha gram panchayat, that comes under the jurisdiction of Vittal police station, near here on Wednesday July 6 night and decamped with nearly 18 kilograms of silver artifacts worth Rs 6.7 crore that adorned the temple deity and also cash dropped by the devotees in 2 offering boxes.
The fingerprint experts and canine squad from Mangaluru police arrived at the spot and done investigation for nearly 2 hours. The burglars did not left behind any clues by using hand gloves, revealed the experts.
Meanwhile, the police are working on the footage from CTV by forming separate teams in nabbing the burglars.
Vittal police registered a case on the basis of complaint lodged by the temple governing council secretary D Sridar Shetty.
Bantwal circle inspector K U Belliyappa, Vittal sub inspector Prakash Devadiga and police personnel have done the preliminary investigations.
