Udupi: Aforestation can save mankind from environmental disasters - Marate

Udupi, 03 Jul 2016: The rising population, demand for basic amenities and modern lifestyle has bearing on environmental destruction that has caused global warming with devastating consequences on decline in quantum of rains, degeneration of soil and extinction of wild beings. The need of the hour is aforestation to maintain equilibrium with nature, said senior teacher B Pundalika Marate Shirva.
Marate was speaking during aforestation drive that was embarked upon by Udupi district taxi and maxi cab Association, Bantakal unit, near here at Ganeshotsav stage, Bantakal, here on Saturday July 2.
He lauded the members of Bantakal unit in responding to the emergency situations by humanitarian deeds despite their work.
Udupi district taxi and maxi cab Association general secretary Ramesh Kotian citing the recent school bus tragedy in Trasi, near here urged the people to engage officially rented vehicles for their journeys.
TP member Geetha Wagle, Shirva gram panchayat member K Ramaraya Patkar, Majoor gram panchayat former president Ganesh Shetty Heroor, Dalit Sangarsha Samiti (DSS) district convener S S Prasad, Udupi district taxi and maxi cab Association - Bantakal unit honorary president Madhav Kamat were present at the dais.
Bantakal unit president Dinesh presided the programme.
Dinesh Devadiga welcomed the gathering. Henry Fernandes compered the programme. The secretary Dinesh Rao proposed vote of thanks.
The district vice president Vincent Palke, unit vice president Jaya Serigar, Manjunat Poojary, treasurer Alwyn Saldanha, Umesh Prabhu Palame and Suresh were also present.
