8 school children killed after omni, bus collide at Trasi

Kundapur, 21 Jun 2016: In a heart wrenching incident, 8 children on their way to school died and 11 injured after a private bus collided with a Maruthi Omni at Mohadi Cross near Trasi on Tuesday, June 21.
Sources said the Omni was carrying 14 students from Tulse, Hemmadi to Don Bosco School, Trasi. Two children died on the spot while 5 died on the way to hospital. Another child died in the hospital. Eleven others including the driver of the Omni have been injured.
Among the eight dead are six girls and two boys. Three of them have been identified as Nikhita, studying in 7th standard, Calista, a student of LKG, and Ananya, studying in first standard. They were accompanied by teacher Philomena who was also injured.
Bus driver Manju and conductor Shanker have been arrested.
Three of the passengers in the bus suffered minor injuries.
Gangolli police have registered a case.
