Mangaluru: Konkani has potential to get secure jobs - MLA J R Lobo

Mangaluru, 18 Jun 2016: Konkani that is taught in schools across Karnataka as third optional language has the potential to secure higher marks. We got a privilege to appear for IAS exam in Konkani. If more and more pupils opt for Konkani, soon it would enable them to get better jobs. The students ought to make use of this golden opportunity, said Mangaluru south MLA J R Lobo.
MLA Lobo was speaking during the valedictory function of Konkani Jagruti Ahiyan, 25-day Konkani awareness campaign that was organized by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy in Uttar Kannada and undivided Dakshina Kannada districts, held at St Aloysius High School, here on Friday June 17.
The Academy president Roy Castelino in his preliminary address said that The Abhiyan was held in 2 stages for 25 days. On the first stage, 100 schools in Uttar Kannada district were visited. On the second stage, 128 schools of Dakshina Kannada and 39 schools of Udupi districts were visited altogether 267 schools. The correspondents of 45 schools in Uttar Kannada are keen on starting Konkani classes, while the clear picture about the schools beginning Konkani classes in undivided Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts will emerge in coming week, said Roy.
Konkani flag and books were handed over to St Aloysius College, primary, high school and Gonzaga School that form St Aloysius education institutions on the same occasion.
St Aloysius education institutions rector Fr Dian Vaz, high school headmaster Fr Edward Rodrigues offered assurances to begin Konkani classes.
Mandd Sobhann president Luvi J Pinto, Academy member Lawrence D’Souza, Lullus Cutinha, Arvind Shanbagh and Shekar Gowda were present at the dais.
The Academy registrar Dr B Devdas Pai proposed vote of thanks. Vitori Karkal compered the programme.
Konkani Prachar Sanchalan® collaborated with Academy in carrying out the Abhiyan.
