Mangaluru: Rajasthan Grameen Mela, Exhibition of India arts & crafts begins in city

Mangaluru, 18 Jun 2016: The Rajasthan Grameen Mela, an exclusive Exhibition-cum-sale of handloom, handicraft, jewellery and paintings was inaugurated at Hotel Woodlands, here on Friday June 17.
Dr Ashajyothi Rai, chairperson of Aasare Charitable Trust®, here inaugurated the Exhibition here on Friday morning.
Speaking on the occasion, Dinesh Sharma, manager of Rajasthan Grameen Mela said, ‘We want to promote Indian handicrafts that are losing sheen in jet-set age. The exhibition has world class products that India can offer,’ said Sharma.
Most of these artisans are living below poverty line and our main aim is to provide a platform to these artisans and their talent, added Sharma.
There are over 60 stalls showcasing the block print dress materials, suit, top, bed sheets, Sanganeri sari from Rajasthan, Kantha work, Paashmina, Dhopian, Baluchary, boutique, silk saris from Kolkata, Tussara, Madka and silk saris from Chattisgarh, Mangalagiri, Kalamkari dress materials, top, cotton soft dress material from Andhra Pradesh, Banaras, Zamadani, bed sheet and cushion covers, silk saris, dress materials from Uttar Pradesh, Chanderi, Maheshwari silk saris, Bagh print cotton work from Madhya Pradesh, Tussara silk saris, dress materials and Khadi silk from Bihar, Kutch Bandhini dress material cotton work, Patola and Rajkot silk, saris and many more products.
Along with the dress materials and sari, antique brass show pieces, jewellery of different disgns various craft items across the nation have been exhibited at the Mela.
Craft Mela hoped to revive and protect the Indian art and culture and all the states should organize Craft Melas in their states, so that new generation will get knowledge of rich cultural heritage and inherent talent of the artisans of rural India.
The exhibition will be open till June 26 from 9.00am to 9.00pm.
