Udupi: Students of Don Bosco School, Shriva get taste of democracy in SPL elections

Udupi, 17 Jun 2016: The ballet papers, unfading ink, voters list, election campaign, candidates agents, election officers, joys of first voting… being found in the elections for school pupil leaders, at Don Bosco School, Shirva, near here on Thursday June 16. It gave a chance for the students to undergo experience of voting in a democratic country. The nomination papers were allowed to submit and withdraw before the elections. The students of Class VI and Class IX were allowed to submit nomination papers for school deputy pupil leaders and students of Class VII and Class X were allowed to submit nomination papers for school pupil leaders.
It was allowed to hold election campaign. The teachers who served as election officers read out the voters list. The unfading ink was used to mark the voters’ fingers of left hands. The students cast their votes in 2 booths by dropping their folded ballet papers in the boxes. The counting of voting began in front the candidates and results were announced.
The elections were held at par with assembly and parliamentary elections to get first hand information on democracy. The election commissioner – school principal Fr Mahesh D’Souza was present.
The teachers Alwyn Danti, Philomena Barboza, Vishwanat Acharya and Mamata assisted in the election process.
