New Academic Year 2016-17 inaugurated in St. Lawrence Educational Institutions

Udupi/M’Belle, 15 Jun 2016: The new academic year 2016-17 was inaugurated in St. Lawrence Educational Institutions at the gathering of students and teachers held in St. Lawrence Parish Hall, Moodubelle on Wednesday, 15 June 2016 at 9.30 am. The inaugural function was attended by Prof. V.N. Rajan. Principal of St. Mary’s College, Shirva as the chif guest. Rev. Dr. Lawrence D’Souza, Secretary of Catholic Education Society of Udupi (CESU) presided over the function. Other dignitaries on the dais included: Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions, Alphonse Alva, Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council, Prof. Naveen Correa, Principal of St. Lawrence PU College, Mrs. Leeena D’Silva-Headmistress of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School, Mrs. Malathi A.-Vice Principal of St. Lawrence English Medium High School and Sr. Irene Viegas-Headmistress of Church Aided Higher Primary School.

 

Following the prayer sung by PU College students and recital of passages from the holy scriptures of Hindus, Christians and Muslims by the students of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School and welcome address by Prof. Naveen Correa, Prof. V.N. Rajan along with the dignitaries on the dais formally inaugurated the new academic year 2016-17 by lighting the lamp.

 

 

In a symbolic gesture of welcome to new students one new student each from First PUC, eighth standard and first standard were welcomed by senior students by offering them flowers.

 

Prof. Devraya Shanbagh read out the results of PUC, Mrs. Leena D’Silva gave a gist of the result of SSLC of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School and Mrs. Malathi A. Analyzed the SSLC results of St. Lawrence English Medium High School.

 

Students who scored highest number of marks as well as those who scored distinction marks were honoured by Principal V.N. Rajan. Students who scored 100 percent marks in different subjects were felicitated by Rev. Dr. Lawrence D’Souza.

 

Teachers from all the four institutions were welcomed and felicitated by Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas.

 

In his address as the chief guest, Principal V.N. Rajan appreciated the achievements of students of PUC as well as SSLC for their excellent performance and complimented the teachers for their hard work. He said that good education and discipline are important in the life of an individual. As the speed of a train is judged by the strength of its engine so also the progress of an educational institution is measured by its head and correspondent. Principal Rajan further said that good leadership is being provided by the Secretary of CESU, Rev. Dr. Lawrence D’Souza and Correspondent Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas. In spite of technological progress the classroom teaching has not come to an end. Still teachers play an important role in educating the students. Principal Rajan wished well to all students and teachers in the new academic year.

 

Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas in his message welcomed the students and teachers to the new academic year 2016-17 and urged them to work hard and keep up the good reputation of St. Lawrence Educational institutions.

 

Speaking at this occasion, Rev. Dr. Lawrence D’Souza giving an example from the early life of the former President of India, K.R. Narayanan said that in order to achieve success in life one should have a strong desire, good discipline, faith in God and himself or herself, determination and hard work.  

 

Prof. Edward Larsen D’Souza compered the programme and Sr. Irene Veigas proposed the vote of thanks.
