Bantwal: Farm produce worth Rs 6 Lac gutted in accidental fire at Kepu village

Bantwal, 13 Jun 2016: A stock of farm produce stored in cow-hut in a household located at Badekkody, in Kepu village, near here was gutted in fire caused by electrical short circuit on Sunday June 12 night.
The family of Eshwar Naik, residing at Badekkody, in Kepu village was fast asleep when the fire raged the cow-hut. The family was awoken to the sounds of copra fire balling. The stocks of over 2,000 copra, a few tons of dry areca, bay and firewood was fully burnt in the fire. The neighbors rushed to the spot and managed to extinguish the fire before the fire brigade could arrive.
The loss was estimated to be around Rs 6 lac.
Kepu gram panchayat president Taranat Alva, former president Balachandra Katte, members Harish Nirkaje, Sasikala Kepu, village accountant, revenue officials visited the spot.
